Description
Widespread species from Central and South America, Mexico, some Caribbean Islands and southern Florida. These seedlings are from the Florida strain. Fairly large orchid with tall branching sprays of yellow 2″ flowers with bronze/orange spots and markings that bloom in the spring. These plants are usually found in open cypress swamps in Big Cypress Preserve. The usually grow as epiphytes but can be terrestrial. Partial sun is preferred, but mature plants can be found growing in almost full sun. Pictured is the pod parent.
