Grow time for the Orchids!

Now that warmer weather has arrived, most orchids are in active vegetative growth. This is the time to do any dividing/repotting that needs to be done. The key words are ‘needs to’. Don’t repot unless it is necessary.

It is also a great time to add new orchids to your collection, as they should acclimate to their new environment quickly. The threat of freezing your orchids is past and it hasn’t gotten too hot yet so now is a great time to ship.

It is also a good time to feed your orchids if you use a time-release fertilizer, or start regular feeding with a water soluble fertilizer.  If you grow outdoors at all, keep an eye on the sun, as it is very intense this time of year. The midday sun can burn your orchids in as little as 10 minutes, so keep them shaded between 9am and 5pm in the summer.
